Welcome to the fastest internet connection you can get in the Hamiota area and some of the fastest available in Canada!
Fibre optics allows data to travel at the speed of light. This is the fastest data can travel (unless there is a major scientific breakthrough, which is not on the horizon).
Fibre Optic lines have been brought into the Hamiota Municipality. The Hamiota Municipality has an agreement with the area’s Fibre Optics Co-op. The Co-op provides a trunk line of fibre optics to Hamiota.
Fast internet is available in the Hamiota urban area. Fast wireless internet is available for those in rural areas of the municipality.
Over half of Hamiota is installed with Midwest Hi Speed Internet. If you haven’t signed up yet, take a look at our plans for great rates and greater speeds!
Urban vs. Rural
The municipality splices fibres off the trunk to go to buildings within town.
The municipality also wires fibres to a tower than transmits wirelessly (Wi-Fi) to additional towers in the area for rural Hamiota area buildings.
Rural customers that are within line of sight to a tower can get a modem and Wi-Fi access.
Speeds
Midwest Hi Speed Internet only offers the tops speeds for all accounts. We do not throttle speeds or restrict data usage. You get the highest speeds for a low price.
Urban Hamiota works on a Fibre To The Home (FTTH) system. It has download speeds up to 1 gigabyte per second (GBps) and upload speeds up to 1 GBps.
Rural Hamiota works on a Fast Wireless system. It has download speeds up to 100 megabytes per second (MBps) and upload speeds up to 100 MBps.
*Note: Actual speeds may vary and are not guaranteed. Factors impacting speeds include customer equipment, your configuration, Internet traffic, and applicable network management.
Plans
Our plans are very straight forward in their classification and you will fit into only one category, so no need to go through comparison charts to figure out which plan fits your needs. We give you unlimited data at the fastest speed. Because there is only one plan and no data caps, you will not find yourself with overage charges.
The majority of the price for each plan is debt repayment for the fibre optics lines, which is fixed and will not change for the first 20 years. However, there is a portion of the price of each plan is used to pay for tech support and capital improvements, the prices of each are market driven and can change. Therefore prices for our plans will not change dramatically over the next decade.
If at any time you would like to change providers, you are not locked into a long-term contract. We only require you to give us 30 days notice (as per the terms of the contract).

FAQs
- If my property doesn’t have a trenched in line yet, is there a cost to get it trenched now that the initial installation period has expired?
- If you do not have a line trenched to your building, you can get on the list for 2019 for no charge.
- The season for trenching happens between the ground thawing in spring and the ground freezing in fall.
- Before a line can be trenched, Hydro needs to come and flag any of their lines into your property. This will be organized with the help of the trenching company before your trenching appointment.
- The charges for anyone who gets a line trenched in after the 2019 season is to be determined in the winter of 2020 when negotiating rates with the contractors doing the trenching.
- Will there be a data cap?
- Not for typical use, i.e. streaming, gaming, downloading, but the system will be monitored for illicit usage (illegal file sharing servers, etc.) and violators of the terms of the contract.
