Places of Worship

Hamiota United Church and Cornerstone Family Worship Centre

The following excerpts were obtained from Hamiota Grains of the Century volumes 1 and 11. Spiritual faith has played an important role within the lives of the community residents. This faith continues within the community today.

The settlers of this area were predominately from English, Scottish and Irish ancestry, thus the Anglican, Presbyterian and Methodists churches were built throughout the Municipality. The Pentecostal Church was established in Hamiota in 1944. Those belonging to the Catholic faith travel to either Shoal Lake or Rivers to worship. A number of families who belong to the Mennonite and Lutheran churches are worshipping in the established church of their choice in the Municipality rather than travel miles to their won. For those who follow the Jewish teachings, the closest synagogue is in Winnipeg.

With a deep faith and belief in God, our pioneers were able to overcome hardships, death and the unknown and still believe in the future. Today we live in comfort, secure in the knowledge that medical advances have given most a long life span but we still need that same faith and belief in God in our everyday lives. We Thank God our forefathers were able to build our faith upon a rock foundation. (excerpt from Hamiota Grains of the Century, Volume 1)

The churches of the Municipality and Village continue to give guidance to their congregations. As in the past congregations fluctuate, increasing and decreasing over the years. Nevertheless each church is recognized as a pillar of strength to cling to as we go about our daily lives. Our ministers/pastors are always there to help and comfort those in need.
